Rory Unplugged

Rory Gallagher was a brilliant blues/rock guitarist, who will always be remembered for his fantastic skills on his 1961 strat. But sometimes you really learn to appreciate the guitarist skill and creativity when they perform on the acoustic.

I particularly like Rory’s arrangement of Leadbelly’s “Out on the Western Plain”. I’ve always loved it since I first saw him do it on BBC Sight and Sound in 1976. I think it’s the perfect illustration of Rory’s fantastic ability, recognised by his peers and gradually being appreciated by a younger, wider audience.
