Another Great Irish Guitarist

One of my favourite artists is an Irish ballad singer called Christy Moore. I’ve been to see Christy on numerous occasions, and the bit that really hits a chord is when he explains the origins of  the songs that he sings. It could be quite simply be where he first heard a particular song, e.g he sings  lovely Scottish love song called “Black is the Colour” and he explains that he first heard it sung in a club in Glasgow, and said to the performer “give us that aul song, and he did”.

It’s a beautiful ballad and listening to it recently I felt inspired to learn it myself. It’s quite simple to play but very effective. Joining Christy on this performance is Declan Sinnott. Declan is another great Irish guitar player, who played in some of my favourite Irish bands over the years, including Horslips and Moving Hearts (Christy’s musical political band in early 80s).

In this clip Declan plays a nice slide guitar accompaniment  to the ballad sung by Christy.
